If like me you work for a company that does not match funds, here are some options to get the most mileage for your money....
I. EMPLOYEE MATCHING OPTION (you give an employee the $. The Catch: you don't have explicit documentation to take the tax-deduction, short of getting a notarized letter from the employee who donates for you.)
1ST PLACE: VERIZON
...will match employee contributions 2-to-1 to the American Red Cross. (A Triple Play!)
2ND PLACE: DRESS BARN
...will match double-match employee donations. (A Triple Play!)
3RD PLACE: INSURANCE COMPANIES:
* ALLSTATE CORP. will match contributions by agents and staff with no limit !!!
* STATE FARM will match employee contributions to the Red Cross dollar for dollar!!!
II. NON-EMPLOYEE MATCHING OPTION
FEDERATED DEPARTMENT STORES
...will match shoppers' contributions up to $1 million, WITH OR WITHOUT PURCHASE, and split funds between the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army. Additionally all employee donations will be matched up to $500,000.
MCDONALD'S
...has created a $2 million matching fund to match donations raised by the Ronald McDonald House Charities canisters in McDonald's restaurants and donations made within the company to help employees in need.
SEARS
...will match customer donations to the Red Cross up to $500,000.
UNITED AIRLINES
...will give 500 frequent flier miles to anyone who donates $50 or more to the Red Cross, AmeriCares or Operation USA.
